Our Story

From a construction management knowledge hub to a global claims and contract practice

An award winining CM consultancy, born from a simple belief

CMGuide, known at its inception as Construction Management Guide, began with a conviction that hard-won knowledge in construction management should not stay locked inside filing cabinets, lecture notes or the memories of a handful of experienced practitioners. It should be written down, explained in plain language, and shared with the people who need it — on site, in the project office and across the negotiating table.

In its earliest days in 2008, that is exactly what CMGuide was: a knowledge hub. Guides, articles, worked examples and straight answers to real questions, published for engineers, project managers, quantity surveyors, contract professionals and students who wanted to understand not only what to do, but why it mattered.

Our journey so far

2008

A knowledge hub

Guides, articles, worked examples and straight answers to real questions, published for practitioners and students alike.

Focus

Construction law and contract administration

A narrower lens and deeper expertise in the disciplines where commercial outcomes are genuinely won and lost.

Demand

From readers to clients

Inquiries became engagements — first across the Middle East, and then with clients around the world.

2016

Established in Australia

A permanent home and a local presence for a practice that had already grown global.

Finding our focus

Our readers shaped what came next. The questions arriving in our inbox were rarely about programmes, construction methods or logistics. They were about entitlement and risk: how to serve a notice properly, how to substantiate a variation, how to demonstrate delay and its causes, how to protect a payment claim, and how to read the one clause that decides who carries the cost when a project goes wrong.

So we narrowed our lens and deepened our expertise. CMGuide grew into a specialist voice in construction law and contract administration — the disciplines where commercial outcomes are genuinely won and lost, long before a dispute ever reaches a tribunal.

From readers to clients

Specialisation brought demand. Readers who had come to us for guidance began asking for something more: help with live matters. The volume of inquiries made the message clear, and CMGuide stepped beyond publishing to advise and support clients directly — first across the Middle East, where our audience was strongest and the appetite for rigorous contractual thinking was growing fastest.

Word travelled. What began as regional work became international, and CMGuide went on to serve clients globally, bringing the same discipline to projects and disputes wherever they arose.

Putting down roots in Australia

In 2016, CMGuide established its phycial presence in Australia. It gave our global practice a permanent home and a local presence, allowing us to combine international experience with close attention to the contracts, standards and security of payment regimes that govern Australian projects.

The same idea, at a greater scale

Much has changed since those first published articles, but the founding idea has not. We still believe that clarity is a professional service in its own right, that sound contract administration prevents more disputes than it creates, and that knowledge is most valuable when it is shared.

Today CMGuide continues to do both: publishing knowledge for a worldwide audience, and standing alongside clients who need experienced, practical support on their most demanding contractual and claims-related matters.
